Columbus, Georgia – February 26, 2007: The National Infantry Foundation has received a gift of $1 million from locally-headquartered Aflac Foundation for construction of the new National Infantry Museum and Heritage Park.

"We are delighted that a company of Aflac's stature has chosen to show its support of soldiers by making such a generous donation to the museum that will honor them," National Infantry Foundation Executive Ben Williams said.

Aflac, a Columbus-based Fortune 500 company, is the number one provider of guaranteed-renewable insurance in the United States, serving more than 40 million people worldwide.

"The Aflac Foundation is proud to support the building of the National Infantry Museum as a tribute to the soldiers who have given so much to our country. Their sacrifices and those of their families should always be remembered," said Aflac Foundation President Kathelen Amos. "The museum complex is a wonderful addition to our community and a fitting tribute to the United States Infantry. It signifies the history and the ongoing vital role Columbus and Fort Benning have in our nation's military efforts."

The new museum is being built on a 200-acre site connecting Columbus and Fort Benning, the Home of the Infantry. Aflac's donation will be used to erect a bronze memorial to fallen soldiers on the grounds of the new museum.

Lead Gifts Chair Brad Turner and a team of volunteer civic and business leaders have been helping the National Infantry Foundation raise the $85 million needed to build the new world-class museum. Turner said the community is fortunate to have a corporate citizen like Aflac. "They support and affect just about every facet of community life, and I would hate to think of what our area would be like without Aflac," he said.

"We're very proud of our success," said BAE Vice President Andy Hove, who traveled to Columbus for the event. "However, we are more proud of the men and women in uniform who protect our way of life. Our contributions to the NIM are a small token of our commitment to the freedoms we enjoy in this great Nation."

Construction on the new museum began in January; completion is expected in 2008.

Aflac is the number one provider of guaranteed-renewable insurance in the United States and the number one insurance company in terms of individual insurance policies in force in Japan. Its insurance products provide protection to more than 40 million people worldwide. Aflac Incorporated is a Fortune 500 company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AFL. The National Infantry Foundation is conducting an $85 million fund raising campaign to build a new National Infantry Museum and Heritage Park on 200 acres linking Columbus, Georgia, and Fort Benning, the Home of the Infantry. The world-class facility will honor the 231-year legacy of valor and sacrifice of the Army’s largest branch, the Infantry. The project includes a museum, parade field, memorial walk of honor, authentic World War II Company Street and 3-D IMAX Theatre. For more information, visit www.nationalinfantryfoundation.org.
