Infantry Museum Selects Exhibit Designer
Columbus, Georgia -- July 26, 2004: The
National Infantry Foundation today announced the selection of Christopher
Chadbourne and Associates of Boston to design and develop the exhibits
at the new National Infantry Museum and Heritage Park. The new facility,
which is to be located on a 200-acre site connecting Fort Benning
and the City of Columbus, will be a national place to remember,
honor and preserve the legacy of the United States Infantryman.
Christopher Chadbourne and Associates' work can
be found in museums, visitor centers, themed attractions and educational
environments throughout the world. Some of its projects include
the "Americans at War" exhibit at the Smithsonian's National
Museum of American History, the German U-Boat U-505 exhibit for
the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, the National Law Enforcement
Museum in Washington, D.C., the visitor centers at the Grand Canyon
and Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park, and the Great Platte
River Road Archway over Interstate 80 in Kearney, Nebraska, which
was featured in the Jack Nicholson movie About Schmidt. The Archway
is the first serious museum project to receive the coveted Thea
award from the entertainment industry.
Founding partner Christopher Chadbourne, who will
lead the design team on this project, said he's honored his firm
was selected. "The sheer grandeur and import of the stories
the museum will tell is both infectious and sobering. We're honored
to play a part in this noble mission." Chadbourne will bring
to the table writers, researchers, historians, media producers,
graphic designers, simulator designers and special effects experts.
The National Infantry Foundation selected CCA from
a field of ten candidates from across the country and Canada. "Each
of the firms was highly qualified," said National Infantry
Foundation Executive Director Ben Williams. "But we really
connected with Christopher Chadbourne. His firm excels in scripting
compelling stories and supporting those stories with creative media
and meaningful artifacts. Chadbourne understands we want a museum
of people, not things."
CCA's team will begin work immediately, in close
collaboration with the architect hired to design the building, E.
Verner Johnson and Associates.
